It all starts with an idea.

The youth of the three communes of Chandor, Guirdolim and Cavorim were organizing many sports activities in the village, mostly in the open space in front of the church, and for a long time they felt the need to organize themselves into an all activity club.

With this objective, 16 young men met in St. Joseph’s Education Institute premises on 22nd September 1963 and decided to form an all activity club with membership open to all irrespective of caste, creed, age and sex. As it was decided to meet again with a larger attendance, the then Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Helvecio Jose Almeida was contacted and he called for a meeting on 29th September 1963 at the same venue.

Just as much water has flown down the Kushawati river that borders the village, Chandor Club too has gone through much and is today managed by its 23rd Managing Committee. But up to now, it has been a long journey where the club has undertaken various activities and dabbled in various areas affecting the village and its inhabitants.

Chandor Club has also provided the village with its biggest and well maintained football ground and a much used road. The work on this ground began somewhere in April 1966 where for the first time excavators which were offered by Vishwanathan Poi Palondicar were used in the village for 16 continuous days and the excavated mud was used to prepare the road connecting Cavorim to the Church which is popularly known as Misamer. The ground was formally inaugurated on 22nd May 1966 by the then Chief Minister of Goa, Daman & Diu Mr. Dayanand Bandodkar.

The Club sponsors a football team that participates in various inter-village football tournaments all over the State and has won quite a number of trophies and even won the Seamen’s Trophy in the year 1994. In fact, the football team of Chandor Club was elevated to the Second Division League of the Goa Football Association.

The foundation stone for the club premises was laid on 9th February 1996 and work on the building commenced in April 2000. The delay was to get the required permissions and licenses. This will be a major asset to the village as it promises to be the happening place in near future. The well designed auditorium will have people rushing to organize shows there. The different gaming rooms will attract all generations as there will be carrom boards, table tennis table, darts, snooker table and even a swimming pool.
